Less is Less.
“Less is Less.”
This is the philosophy of YC. In this context, “less” means exactly that—less. Most people might misinterpret this idea, seeing “less” as something undesirable. However, we should rethink this notion: embracing less can lead to an easier life.
While “Less is more” suggests achieving more by doing less, “Less is Less” seeks to reduce negative aspects.
We ought to reevaluate our pursuit of “more” in life-such as “more happiness,” “more possessions,” “greater joy,” “better health,” “more friends,” and “more finance.” Instead, we should focus on seeking “less,” such as “less unhappiness,” “fewer possessions,” “less sadness,” “less pain,” “less suffering in relationships,” and “less abundance.”
The world is inherently unfair, absurd, and filled with imperfections. We must confront the reality that striving for happiness through overly optimistic thinking can lead to feelings of betrayal, skepticism, and frustration.
Thus, it is essential to accept the world as it is—even if our perceptions do not reflect the true reality. We should strive to find contentment in experiencing less hardship and learn to adapt to this understanding. The happiness we seek is often fleeting; it is merely a temporary pleasure. If we want to sustain the happiness we envision, we should aim for less in order to experience less suffering. Less is less.
